Sydney one of the most laid back and relaxed cities in the world
There is an advertising slogan that says, "There's no place in the world like Sydney." That's true enough, but what's different about it? Just as San Francisco has a famous bridge, Sydney has the Sydney Harbour Bridge. It has an iconic architectural symbol in the Sydney Opera House, but Paris has one too, in the Eiffel Tower. It has some of the world's greatest beaches at its doorstep, but so do a few other great cities of the world. So, once again, what's so different about Sydney.
The climate is one of the special things about Sydney. The city's temperate climate combined with its warm ocean temperature makes Sydney the perfect place to visit if you love the beach. Except for a few short months a year, the water is warm enough to swim in comfortably but cool enough to be refreshing. It's a bit like having a Southern California climate in beautiful San Francisco.
No one can deny that Paris is one of the world's greatest city's and nobody complains about the fact that its atmosphere is so thoroughly French. But Sydney is a melting pot of people from around the globe. You can go to a café in Glebe and get great Greek food. In Balmain, you can find dozens of restaurants that serve modern Western cuisine. In Surry Hills, you can find a little café that serves the best Italian dishes you'll find anywhere this side of Florence. Then there are the Asian restaurants and the list goes on and on.
Of course, New York City is a fabulous place to visit, but it can't boast of having a relaxed, beachy lifestyle. In Sydney, it's not only accepted, it's the norm. Among world financial centers, Sydney has to get first prize for being the most laid back and relaxed. That's not to say they don't take care of business in Sydney. They just do it Sydney style.
In almost every other large metropolis, if you work in the city, you live in the city. That's not necessarily the case in Sydney. Thousands of commuters hop on the train from their Blue Mountain or Central Coast retreat and get to Sydney in no time at all. It is one big city where you can have it all - the beauty of nature and the excitement of the city. This is something you can discover for yourself when you visit Sydney. A lack of a car needn't stop you from exploring, thanks to the city's excellent railway system.
One thing that makes Sydney unique is the simple fact that it is located in Australia. As cosmopolitan as the city is, it is still unmistakably Australian. The minute you step off the plane, you will leave your cares behind and start soaking up the laid-back Aussie lifestyle.
Thanks to Sydney's extensive public transportation system, you don't really need to worry too much about where you stay. No matter where your Sydney accommodation is located, it will be close to a train, bus or ferry that can take you wherever you want to go. Don't worry about taking a change of clothes with you, either. If you're staying in a five star hotel in the heart of the financial district, nobody's going to give you a second glance if you walk into the lobby with sandy feet and sunscreen on your nose.
